see #84; give up on .custom:any. define properties explicitly so we know what is being set and where and so controllers do not clash with each other. right now assignmentcontroller, 340REST, and rubriccontroller is overwriting properties. This will require that code to be lightly modified to get this code to compile again, but will make it easier to know what is going on in these properties.
