Navigation: Key functions for sorting, object data

Use a key function for:
- Making sure that new items are inserted in an orderly fashion
- Allowing object data in items, selecting the appropriate value to
  use for link generation and hash comparisons for active item selection
  (isActive config now has access to both the key and the item), during
  startup as well as updates.
