PERL-894 apply prefer_numeric only to pure strings

Previously, there was a bug such that dual-vars with both numeric and
string parts were treated as strings.  This fix ensures that anything
with a numeric part is treated as a number and the 'prefer_numeric'
config heuristic is only applied to pure strings.
