Commit Message

Minor but long-needed cosmetic updates: use the builtin xml parser (that apparently I couldn't find years ago). This should also fix the build. Import modules as names instead of polluting the global namespace. Minor: Update install instructions and make docstrings double instead of single quotes because that seems to be preferred.
