Remove ws_sep tracking, stricter variable names

The new tokenizer correctly handles escape strings internally, and no
longer relies on the "stitching" method, and therefore no longer needs
the `ws_sep` variable, so it has been removed.

We have also introduced stricter variable name parsing, no longer
allowing underscores for the first character.
