This ensures that the next persisted segment is both logically
and physically sorted, thereby optimizing reads.
On DGM tests, with 8 segments, this shows 40% better
indexing throughput.
Without full merges in 10 minute run:
 go test -v -test.run Test_DGMLoad -numItems=9900000
Loaded items upto 4492400.
With full merges in 10 minute run:
Loaded items upto 6306700.
