Formalizing how paths are treated

- The provided paths are assumed to be fully normalized, as these are to
  be set up by the application itself, so they will not be sanitized.
- Slashes will no longer be implied - provided paths will have to add
  it themselves.
- Also provide a yield_core_path method to the base implementation for
  providing the list of absolute core paths.
