Add unit tests

As we did not previously have unit tests for this package, this commit
tries to add some unit tests. We try to get full line coverage with
these tests. However, we do not try to test things like how it will
appear or test simulated UI events (e.g. mouse clicks). Instead we use
the callback methods to make sure that they behave correctly with a
given input (e.g. step forward or go to time `t`). So these tests can be
seen as verifying the viewer works given the GUI portions, in matplotlib
and our code, behave correctly. Hopefully we can extend our coverage
further into these GUI areas in the future.
