With child collections some merge segments can be empty.
Happens when multiple go routines exclusively load to only their
child collection.
Avoid persisting empty merge segments to prevent mmap failures.
Only append non-empty batches in ExecuteBatch()
Use correct len in isEmpty()
Use storeFooter in buildNewFooter()
