Remove optimisation of a function

Very occasionally it would appear as through an executable were
receiving absolutely no packets. On digging deeper they appeared to go
missing in this function, switching off optimisation here fixes the
problem in all cases in which I've encountered it.

If anyone knows more about the depths of GCC than I do and can hazard a
guess as to what on earth is happening here they're welcome to do so.
