Commit Message

use `@pytest.mark.asyncio` rather than the `event_loop` fixture

The `event_loop` fixture was intended to add async support before
`pytest-asyncio`; ideally we don't need to define our own `event_loop`
anymore.

This both removes a redundant fixture and hopefully fixes #238
(intermittent closed event loop errors on Travis).
