CoordinateExpand and CoordinateFlatten refactoring (#183)

* start testing, improve docstring
* Flatten tested and debugged.
* copy Flatten functionality to CoordinateFlatten
* copy old Flatten test over in preparation for reworking
* Flatten tested and debugged.
