Use std::pair for carry_names instead

Apparently when you use the default impl of a std::stack it uses a
deque.  This causes horrific memory issues and for some reason when the
parts vector gets reallocated on insert, the active_item cache iterators
are getting freed when they shouldn't be when the parent object is using
a deque container.
