Allow text direction to be overriden in vertical bars (#5160)

Allows for user to override vertical text direction if wanted by setting the `direction` parameter.

This is especially useful for some writing systems like Mongolian Script, which must be rotated 90 degrees and read top to bottom. Currently the text appears upside down in left bar.

Default behaviour is unchanged.
